CorneaGen COVID-19 Update

May 27, 2020

With restrictions on elective procedures easing and demand for tissue and devices steadily increasing each week, we want to assure you that our operations continue meet 100% of surgeon demand.

As COVID-19 restrictions continue to lift around the globe and with the situation changing daily, it’s imperative to stay up-to-date with the latest news and insights from all sources, especially from our surgeon partners and colleagues.

CorneaGen is committed to providing peer-to-peer education and advice to aid all surgeons and surgical centers as they begin to come back on-line. We recently held a very well received live panel discussion on reopening practices.

In the first of an ongoing series of panel discussions, moderator Kendall Donaldson, M.D., and esteemed colleagues took an in-depth look at how each of their practices have adapted during the COVID-19 crisis and shared their latest insights and advice for reopening practices as restrictions lift in their regions. Additional sessions are planned with our second session on this important topic scheduled for Tuesday June16th. You can register here.

Dear Cornea Surgeons,

We have all heard the words “unprecedented” and “challenging” more often than we would like over the past two months and we understand how difficult these times have been on all of us and our loved ones. There is no going back, only forward, and we are here for you as we all move forward together.

CorneaGen has been processing urgent tissue requests only for the past several weeks. Now, as some states reopen for elective procedures, we want you to know that CorneaGen is here for all your tissue needs.

If you have an urgent tissue need or if you are open for elective procedures, we can process your requests. We pride ourselves on timely delivery and meeting all criteria requests. With uncertain volumes as schedules begin to open, we ask that you order as early as possible to ensure we can meet all your criteria.

We know there will be concerns from doctors, facilities, staff, and patients as things “open up” again over the coming weeks and months, and we are taking every precaution possible to protect you and your patients.

CorneaGen is following all recommended screening processes, including a double prep with povidone iodine, and our tissue processors are screened to ensure they are healthy before coming to work.

There is no way to adequately describe what we are all going through and will continue to face as we forge ahead. We will all adapt to the changing environment in which we live and work. Throughout, CorneaGen will be here to help, support, and quickly provide the highest quality tissue available for you and your patients.

If there is anything at all that we can do to support you and your patients, please let me know.

President & CEO

Dear Cornea Surgeons,

We are thinking of you and wishing the best for each of you during this challenging time.

To do our part in limiting the spread of COVID-19, CorneaGen has decided to process only urgent tissue requests effective March 27, 2020. In the interest of local, national, and global health and recommendations put forth by AAO, ASCRS, ASCA, OOSS, we will only be providing urgently requested tissue domestically after March 27th.

As always, we are here for you and want to help ensure the safety of you, your team, and your patients and will be ready to continue helping you whenever needed. Also, during this time we have had many requests to access our extensive library of free trainings. You may always access those here.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out. For emergency tissue requests, please email or call (877) 682-8502.

As organizations adapt their working arrangements to slow the spread of COVID-19 it’s more important than ever to stay coordinated and provide the clarity needed to continue to provide service for our partners, our surgeons, and their patients.
To stay in alignment with health official recommendations, we have directed most of our non-operational staff to work from home.  We do this for the safety of our entire staff population and to specifically reduce additional risk of exposure for our dedicated processing and operational staff. Our priorities are to protect the long-term health of our mission to eliminate corneal blindness while continuing to serve you and your patients and take care of our staff the best we can.
In addition to the standard safety precautions outlined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) we have initiated advanced COVID-19 screening of all recovered corneas including additional donor screening of diagnosis or exposure to COVID-19.

Our operations continue at 100% capacity and we want to assure you that we’re committed to supporting our surgeon partners and their patients.

These are unprecedented times of challenge. We at CorneaGen value our relationship with all our customers, partners and employees and will always honor the precious gift of tissue donation. We’re dedicated to our mission of eliminating corneal blindness worldwide by 2040. Now, more than ever, we hold this mission as our unfaltering guiding star.

Should you have specific questions, please reach out to your CorneaGen business contact.
