New CorneaGen Interactive Education Program To Offer Free Online Training for All Surgeons
October 24, 2018
CorneaGen, a mission-driven company committed to transforming how corneal surgeons treat and care for the cornea, is adding interactive, online courses to its free-of-charge, industry-leading education program for surgeons around the world. Utilizing an online platform designed for universities, CorneaGen will offer instruction in cutting-edge procedures such as Nano-Thin DSEK and best practices for using transplant devices. Interested surgeons can sign up now at https://corneagen.com/chicago to attend live demonstrations in CorneaGen’s booth (#3933) at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting this week and be notified when the new online courses launch this fall.
“CorneaGen pioneered free education programs for corneal surgeons with our expert webinars and peer-developed DMEK wet labs. Interactive, online courses that can be accessed from anywhere will take our free program to the next level,” said CorneaGen CEO Monty Montoya. “With instructional videos, quizzes and a faculty of respected corneal surgeons providing live feedback, we will dramatically increase access to best practices for surgeons worldwide.”
CorneaGen’s free webinars, peer-developed wet labs and live demonstrations have helped more than 2,000 surgeons perfect procedures and enhance patient outcomes since the education program began in 2016 The intensive DMEK wet labs include a two-hour live lecture and demonstration followed by two hours of hands-on practice with research tissue. Each pair of students is tutored by an experienced surgeon proctor during the wet lab. The next CorneaGen DMEK wet lab is scheduled for November 3 in Irvine, Calif.
The first classes in the interactive, online education program will teach students how to use CorneaGen devices for DSEK and DMEK, including the EndoSerter and the Geuder Pre-Loaded Glass Cannula. Soon, the program will offer beginning, intermediate and advanced classes in DMEK, Nano-Thin DSEK and other key procedures.
Most online classes will include a video lecture by a respected surgeon, an animated video demonstration and a quiz to check for mastery of the concepts. Students also will have the ability to upload videos of their own procedures and get personalized feedback and advice on how to improve from the instructors.
